In 2004 I realized there were a lot of big-time, elemental sports events I'd never been to. So I spent one year traveling to the 10 greatest sports events, or at least the 10 that topped my list and wrote a book about the experience. This blog is a rolling update of what's happening with the book, the events and the evolution of the list.

Good piece. And you are right. I saw the 1961 Masters; was 17 at the time. Got there by a 35 hour bus ride. Purchased ticket about two months before the event. $15 for the entire tournament. Palmer doubled the 18th to lose it, and I never saw so many grown people cry. Lined up for a cab in front of the clubhouse, and got in it with Ted Kroll, the PGA champ. No
VIP cars then! He was wasted and angry from a bad round. What an experience!
